IN THE BEGINNING:
My start with American Miniature Horses started at the Tofield Auction. The most
beautiful little blue roan mare came into the ring and that was it. I was totally in
love. Her name is Holly and she came registered. She spent her first couple of
years with us pastured with Peter's big mares and believe it or not . . . She was
the boss!
Well, as we all know, one is not enough - they are as addicting as Pugs, and it
wasn't long before we had three, then ten! Along the way we acquired another little
blue roan, this time a stallion who turned out to be Holly's grandfather. Imagine our
surprise when we looked at the papers! Peppy is now 24 years of age (2012) and
gets special treatment here. He has been shown and is such a sweetheart letting
me practice my clipping skills on him, sometimes with the most unusual results!
Quite hilarious!
Unfortunately Peppy has been unable to reproduce to date and Holly has never
foaled. They are both here for life, my special ones.
Of course, when I was small (pre-school) I wanted to be with horses, and I would
take any opportunity to visit my cousins at Canwood, Saskatchewan who had the
most beautiful draft horses. I remember they were Tut and Trixie. Tut was a bay
and Trixie was black. They were used for farming, especially haying and I pretty
much grew up riding them and later a beautiflul buckskin they had. I had no horse
sense, but I was learning!
Marriage brought a bay Thoroughbred cross gelding and a palomino gelding. Over
the next twenty years two kids and a divorce later, I also had an Appaloosa mare
who I bred twice and rode all over the country. We were the best of friends.
My daughter and I broke one of the fillies and she rode in shows in southern
Saskatchewan and eventually got herself a Thoroughbred that she could jump with.
Those were happy years. Even though I always had big horses, and do to this
day, the horse that really took my fancy was the American Miniature...and they
come in all colors!
It is our intention to breed miniature horses that can move, using the best pedigrees
known in the industry today. We have found that good horses come closely related
to the horses bred by our founding fathers of miniature horses and we want to carry
on using those lines maintaining good temperament and conformation so they will
be a pleasure to have.
We are in the process of breaking several of our horses to drive. You haven't lived
until you've driven a miniature horse!
Visitors are always welcome!
